Disoriented Definition of Fashion

As we evolve, our dress code develops with us; our food choices become more extravagant, our interests change, and most importantly our ability to style ourselves expands. But the question is: When did this process of styling ourselves become so outrageous? When did our sense of style become so disturbing to the point that we have managed to remove the “t” from “taste” to add a “w” to create a “waste”?

Whether talking about men or women, the definition of fashion changed a lot in the previous half-a-century. Every decade had its own significance in terms of the fashion culture and each of those decades was a step to a trendier era, that is the present day. However, who knew that those steps would lead to an era of fashion disaster? I mean come on ladies and gentlemen, look around and watch how disgraceful we’ve become and think back to the days when Marilyn Monroe wore her beautiful white dress. It was a fashion sensation, which not only made her a sex symbol; it made her a fashion goddess for she single-handedly transformed fashion from a conservative rigid look to a more flamboyant curvy phase. Why, because it looked good, it was more feminine, and it enhanced the appearance of women around the world, unlike what women are trying to do today.

You go to the mall and watch all kinds of people walking. On your right side, you notice a man trying too hard to look like a female when in fact that man is actually a woman lost in the land of “Whose-Whom”. And on your left hand, you see gorgeous female bodies: tall, thin, and curvy, those that attract all sorts of men, and yet shockingly they appear to have the face of a “male goat”. Come on! I know that this is a gender issue not a fashion one, but those people decide to express themselves through their versatile styles of clothing and that is mainly what is ruining our fashion culture nowadays.

For example, in terms of pets, they say, “A dog is a man’s best friend.” However lately that saying has become a bit of a delusion. “Why so?” you might be wondering. Well, it’s mainly because of the fact that nowadays a man’s best friend is his own hair. Whether you are on the verge of baldness or in the process of developing a “Beckham’s Mohawk,” you spend more time in front of the mirror than on your desk trying to study. It’s a fact that we as human beings love to look good at all times but why did we take it to such extreme levels?

Women are even worse. Not only are they the prime reason for forcing men into trying too hard merely to improve their appearance, but they are also the leading actresses in the recently produced daytime soap opera “The Hair & The Hideous.” What’s up with all the rainbow colors that we see up there, and why the hell have women built what seems to be an artificial hill on their heads? In the early days where women were considered to be fragile and feminine, hair was so simple and artistic; however women today simply want it blonde and curly. Imagine how Mona Lisa would look like with Shakira’s hairstyle; that’s how horrible hairstyles have gotten.

Don’t get me started on the pounds of makeup women apply on a daily basis. On a good makeup day, you see them looking like drag queens that have been working for the best strip clubs in Las Vegas. And on a bad makeup day, you see them looking as if they had just been bitch-slapped so hard that their cheeks had plumped up and their eyes bruised.

Why, why have we gotten this far? If your answer is because we get inspired by all the celebrities we see on TV, well that’s a false statement. Celebrities are naturally good looking and never have they irritated me the way normal citizens do. I am no fashion expert, and to be honest I don’t really care about fashion, but I notice my surroundings. I can spot a single red light from a million green ones. So excuse me for being offensive, but my god do I get irritated when I see people trying too hard to look good. I am not saying some don’t end up looking perfect, and others also end up wowing crowds; what I am saying is that there is a much higher percentage of fashion mishaps in this day and age, and it should stop.
