OZM just told me about this interesting incident that happened in the US yesterday where a 7 year old boy managed to save his family from a group of armed robbers!!
So what happened??
A group of armed robbers attacked a house in California and took both parents hostage, whereas Carlos(the 7 year old boy) and his sister managed to grab the phone and hide in the bathroom. Carlos called 911 and asked for help. That’s when the robbers heard his voice and broke the bathroom door. They asked the kid, “who did you call?” and the kid said “911″ which frightened the robbers and lead them to run away!! Watch the video below.
I lost my iPhone hands-free headset a while ago and I’ve been trying to find the best replacement, keeping in mind that I recently found out I have weird ears; I can’t find an earpiece which fits my ears without falling out with the slightest movement!
So I was going to go for the B&O earset3 ($199), which perfectly hangs on your ears, but I guess Musehave 12 different solutions depending on how you use your headphones. The Executive(Above) is one solution for me perfectly tailored for the iPhone. It has all the characteristics of noise reduction and perfect sound quality (although I bet B&O is better) but it has 2 essential things every iPhone user looks for after you acquire the sound quality: a button for answering calls and shuffling music, and in my case a set of different sized silicon ear buds to fit your weird ears!
I really like the Mulberry bags, especially the “Bayswater” bag; I think the colors they have them in (online) are gorgeous. I only have one issue and that is that I sometimes feel that it’s a poor man’s “Birkin” (by Hermes). They really do look very similar!!
Although its ridiculous how many “Birkin’s” you see in Kuwait, and what kills me the most is that people would actually put their “Birkin” on the floor!!!!! Especially in restaurants… Jeeeez! If I owned a “Birkin” I’d be sitting on the floor and my “Birkin” can relax on a comfy couch.. not even a chair!!
But since I’m nowhere near having enough money for a “Birkin” (and fakes are a huuuuge faux-pas) I think they “Bayswater” is a nice substitute at about 350 KD (not completely sure of the price though). Its worth it, it’s a classic only the color and print changes and Mulberry has been making this bag for years. I just would not want to have something that’s referred to as a poor man’s anything!!
But a 2 year wait and a price tag of $5,000 is something I can consider in my 40s (with a huge maybe).. For today, a poor man’s “Birkin” or not I would want to CONSIDER the “Bayswater”.
I don’t know if you follow this habit or not, but usually many people are into complete household cleaning in the spring. After the winter season, and in our case a package of dust – rain – insects – smoke from fire places etc. , people are involved into comprehensive household cleaning, including washing off the exterior of houses.
I have found a couple of useful tools and tips for the best spring clean-up tasks you’ll ever need.
First of all, I think this is a task which should be done in-house and not outsourced to service companies (apart from pest control). For starters, a company called Shaklee offers a full kit of environment and health friendly cleansers ($176) which include everything you need to clean your home. If you even have a stronger bond to the environment, then The Daily Green thinks you should never ever again buy anymore cleansers, as they instruct you how to mix your own detergents/cleansers from products such as baking soda, vinegar, lemons, and other stuff; which are of course environment friendly.
Then comes pest control. One advice, keep it to Boecker. I have tried them in Lebanon, both in Beirut and in the mountains. You will never see insects or rodents anymore. However, I just called them, and I felt the price is a bit too much compared to what I paid in Beirut. A yearly contract for an average house in Kuwait (300 sq meters x 2 floors building) is around KD270, and they give a 12 month guarantee plus multiple visits to spray around the house. On the other hand, I also inquired about a (one floor 250 sq meter) chalet or a ranch in Wafra and the price was Kd350. In addition, if you are familiar with Wafra, it is annoying flies migration season now. Boecker takes care of flies with a KD100 per visit.
If you are still lost and don’t know what to do for a spring household clean-up, then I urge you to visit Status Clean.com, which guides you on the best ways for household and commercial cleaning, waste management, pest control, and cleaning products.
Now this is an activity you can do in Kuwait apart from eating. See you on rooftops!
It seems that Honda is going to enter the private jet market very soon. Honda began their research on private jets in late 1980s and they are now planning to release their first jet in late 2011. As you can see below, the Hondajet will be quite small. It can carry up to 7 passengers, either (2 crew + 5 passengers) or (1 crew + 6 passengers). Now, what’s interesting is that Honda is aiming to sell this jet at a very attractive price which is apprx $3.65 million. So.. who wants one? Visit Honda’s website for more info.
Good move. Now you can buy your own Sultan Center groceries bag which is made of 100% recycled material – 250 fils a piece.
It even has bottle holders inside to keep liquids safe. I liked the fact that they introduced re-usable bags instead of paper bags which many might throw away instead of recycling.
Okay don’t try this if you don’t like ginger. I got this drink as a gift from someone that just came from Saudi Arabia. It’s a mixture of ginger and saffron. I personally like to drink ginger from time to time because I heard that ginger has a lot of benefits. Preparing it is quite simple, all you have to do is boil water and then add one packet of ‘Ginger with Safaran’ to each cup. The drink was a bit strong and maybe that’s because one packet is supposed to serve more than one cup. It’s made by a Saudi company called Zellah which as far as I know, their products aren’t available here in Kuwait. Anyway, for all ginger lovers, ‘Ginger with Safaran’ is worth a try.
I thought I posted about Eneloop batteries a while ago but for some reason I can’t find the post. Anyway. So I got this package as a gift a while ago, and wanted to check it out but I was very busy that it took me months before I un-boxed the Eneloop babies.
To be honest I’m quiet impressed! I always viewed rechargeable batteries boring and a waste of time. But if you think of it this way: first you get them fully charged out of the box, you get 2 sets of 4 double A (AA) batteries just in case you are a heavy user. You can always buy extra batteries to have them with you on the go. In addition, they really last long; I used Buzberry’s camera 3-4 times now, and I still have 2/3 of the battery full.
The box I got includes:
Charger (holds 2 double A OR 2 triple A batteries at one time)
8 AA eneloop Rechargeable Batteries
4 AAA eneloop Rechargeable Batteries
2 “C” sized shells / spacers that Ingeniously Power “C” Devices with AA Batteries
2 “D” sized shells / spacers that Ingeniously Power “D” Devices with AA Batteries
So as you have noticed in the gallery, you don’t need the actual C or D sized batteries (unless you still use them on a daily basis), but what you will be using is the shell of a C or D sized battery which fits one double A battery – quiet smart.
Yet this is not the sole reason why I liked those batteries. The Eneloops have a relevantly slow discharge rate. In other words, they aren’t annoying like the ones I’ve tried before; the more I used them the more they ran out of power faster. In addition, I always thought disposable batteries were easier as their life-time is better than one life-span of a rechargeable battery – which is true! Until I used the Eneloop. Sanyo markets these batteries based on a fact that they last 1,000 recharge times, I still have 999 times until my next post.
If you need a better technical report then click here. And I guess Sanyo sells them in Kuwait, if not then get them here

This might be a stupid post, but seriously I noticed that there are a lot of butterflies today. I was walking this morning in the walkway next to our house and saw a huge amount of butterflies- something which I’m not used to seeing. Now what’s strange is that I later went out for breakfast with a couple friends and one of them had also mentioned that there are a lot of butterflies today! It’s almost 11pm now and I just went out to check if the newspaper had arrived, but instead I saw 2 butterflies. So is it the butterfly season now?
